The absence of Marussia and, to a lesser extent, Caterham from the United States Grand Prix and Brazilian Grand Prix weekends has left Sauber with something of an open goal. It is true that the loss of the perennial backmarkers has left the Swiss-based team, who were regular podium contenders just two years ago, at the rear of an 18-car field on pure pace.
