As we come toward the end of October, it's difficult to recall a more tumultuous month in recent Formula One history. Marussia became the latest casualty of the ever-increasing cost of competing, following Caterham into administration on Monday. A "serious" rescue deal is reported to be on the table and they retain ninth in the constructors' championship for the time being, but they will not race at the United States Grand Prix this coming weekend. The field will drop to 18 cars for the first time since Monaco 2005. The qualifying format may need to be modified in response.
