2011 NASCAR Logic: Is Two-Car Drafting Really That Much of a Leap Forward?

Earnhardt/Patrick, KyBusch/Logano, Stewart/Bowyer, KyBusch/Rogers, Cassill/Keselowski...everybody's playing doubles this weekend and will continue to do so throughout the year—minus the short tracks. The COTT is bringing out random cooperation in everybody. I just wanna know, can anyone explain to me...how is this a new thing? Correct me if I am incorrect, but even under the old cars, didn't bump drafting always make cars go faster? I, for one, have seen many a Talladega race where Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson have been about 30 laps to go, in the 25-40 range, to link up and find themselves in the top five within three laps.
