Button Proves The Points System Still Works

Throughout the 2009 season there have been so many talking points and controversial moments in F1, most of which occurred away from the racetrack, that it is all to easy to forget that Bernie Ecclestone almost ruined the season before it started.   His desire to introduce a new scoring system of ‘medals’ rather than points was supposedly in place at the start of the season, and caused some confusion before the Australian Grand Prix way back in March.   The idea was to award drivers with a Gold, Silver or Bronze medal for finishing on the podium (instead of points), and then the driver who held the most Gold Medals at the end of the season would be the winner of the Championship.   Luckily FOTA stood up to Ecclestone and the decision ...
