The 24 hours of Daytona Part II seemed to be the theme of the 52nd annual Daytona 500.
After taking the green flag shortly after 1 PM ET, things were right on schedule with great racing, the lead changed over and over as the top drivers showed their horsepower.
But, just after the halfway mark the red flag was displayed when a part of the track came apart in turn one.
With Clint Bowyer in the lead, the cars were brought down pit road for over an hour as track officials worked to the fullest to repair the track and finish the race.
As the five o’clock hour began, cars were re-fired and sent back racing, but 39 laps later they were back under the yellow flag.
