Daytona 500: Earnhardt Jr., Newman Crash Late, Bayne Leads Late

The end of the Daytona 500 has been crazy to say the least. After Regan Smith got spun out with four laps to go, a green-white-checkered finish was on the horizon. On the first attempt, Robby Gordon got squeezed down low. As he tried to correct it chaos ensued. Ryan Newman got shoved into Dale Earnhardt Jr. The two then crashed hard. Denny Hamlin sustained damage in the accident. That set up another restart. It was also deemed that then leader, David Ragan, had changed lanes before the drop of the green flag, and was black flagged. That handed the lead over to rookie Trevor Bayne, making just his first career start.
