Landing a Row 1 start at the Indy 500 doesn't automatically give racers a huge advantage to win the race. That being said, it certainly doesn't hurt their chances either. Running a hot qualifying lap is a good gauge for the racing teams to know how their car is running, but it doesn't guarantee a good race.
