Jenson Button Runner-Up in 2009 BBC Sports Personality of the Year

In 2006, Jenson Button was a nominee for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award. He had been nominated for winning his first race and having a fantastic finish to the 2006 Formula One season. However, on the night it was presented, he lost out to "equestrian star" (or horse rider to we normal folks) Zara Phillips. The award is decided by a public vote and, unfortunately, Jens failed to even make the top three, with the world-champion horse rider followed by Ryder Cup golfer Darren Clarke and gymnast Beth Tweddle in third.
