Daytona 500: 81 Laps In, Dale Earnhardt Jr. Finally Takes The Lead

The Daytona 500 has now been running for 81 laps, and finally the pole sitter Dale Earnhardt Jr. has taken the lead. As Earnhardt crossed the start finish line as the leader, the one hundred thousand plus in attendance at Daytona International Speedway roared their approval. The first 80 laps of the Great American Race have been eventful to say the least. Thus far we have seen seven caution flags. The two most notable were for a blown engine from Kevin Harvick, and the big one that claimed at least 15 drivers.
