NASCAR in Las Vegas: Pit Road Penalties Hurt Contenders

On lap 151, the caution flew yet again in the Kobalt Tools 400. David Gilliland cut a tire and slammed the wall, bringing out the yellow flag. On the ensuing pit stop, two drivers that had been in the top five suffered pit road penalties. Kevin Harvick who had been running fifth, was caught for speeding on the exit of pit road. He was forced to serve a pass through penalty. Tony Stewart, the driver who has dominated most of the action up until this point, also committed a penalty on pit road. He left his pit box with the wrench still in the back window. As he left the pits with equipment, he was also forced to serve a pass through penalty.
