NASCAR: Sprint Cup Title Would Be First for Denny Hamlin, Richmond

You couldn’t exactly call Denny Hamlin the typical kid growing up in Chesterfield County. By the age of seven, he won his first go-cart race, and by 15 he was winning races at Southside Speedway while a student at Manchester High School. He continued up the ladder in the late model stock car division before getting his big break in 2004 when he signed with Joe Gibbs Racing. The Gibbs-Hamlin relationship has been a winning one, with Hamlin now perceived by many to be among the top five drivers in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.
